Steve Says…For Dummies…

I thought I would do a quick guide on “Steve Says…”

My blog address is now http://steve-says.net/ and the menu along the top:

Hi…

This is all about me – hello :)

Let’s Blog…

My blog roll – all my posts about something or nothing.

Music Mix…

A fun weekly music quiz with a twist that I host. What’s the twist? Well I ask questions and you use your music collection to give you the answer. I produce it on a Monday but don’t worry (be happy) if you can’t do it on that day – any day is fine. I’d change the name but I can’t be assed :)

Sound Off Here…

I wish I could save up my money as well as I could my rants. This is a sounding off board where I release all my saved up rants to share.

I’m Listening To…

Remembering that I’m Steve and I’m an iTunes-a-holic – I produce a weekly playlist of my Top 10 most played tracks of that week and show it off here.

Once a month I will also choose an “Artist Of The Month” and put all their songs on my iPhone.

The menu along the top takes care of everything I have created and host but I do take part in a lot of other challenges hosted by fellow bloggers and these can be found in my Category Cloud, which I shall name “stuff”, along with other non-regular posts by me.

Zap & Snap…

Each week I will suggest a new theme so take a new photo or use an existing photo and edit it with any software you like, so…

  1. Create a new post showing the original photo
  2. What edits have you made?
  3. What software/techniques have you used?
  4. Link back to the current week’s page

Happy snapping and even happier zapping…

Challenge Me…

From time to time I like to set myself challenges and I’ve recently found them easier to achieve when I also write about them….

Search Me…

This does exactly what it says.

Things I Like…

A list of links to sites that I like and have posted about.

Tweet Me…

I’ve only recently discovered the joys of Twitter so follow me, tweet me, re-tweet me – whatever.

      1. I know, I need to get back into a routine, the time leading up to Christmas was just a no go. I love that Music Challenge. Actually, I’m going to go (when I finish the post I am writing) and add a banner on my page for it :)

    1. Dear farfetchedfriends,

I’d say do a bit at a time. Choose an area of your blog e.g. the sidebar, a specific post or a Page: think about what you’d like to do with it (images, text, layout) and then grab the relevant Support pages to help you with the instructions and give it a go.

If you don’t want the work-in-progress messing up your blog, you can always Create Another Blog and set it to Private so nobody can see it except you. Then you can play around with all the things you think you might want and compare how it looks in reality. When you’ve got things arranged the way you’d like, just copy and paste it into your main blog and voila! All your readers see is the lovely new design tweaks.

It’s taken me a year to get my blog finally looking like how I’d envisioned it. But that is because this is my first ever blog (and I had a lot to learn) and because I had a very particular canvas in mind. Plus, my chronic illness daily affects my ability to see and move, so everything is a slow process for me.

I think tweaking your chosen blog Theme so it reflects your personality better is important and a good way to grab other people’s attention. Think of it as a bit like going to the pub to meet with a bunch of friends-of-friends. There’ll be lots of people you don’t know, but you’ll find yourself talking to someone because they have an infectious laugh or the way they phrase things draws your interest.

It’s those little elements of a stranger’s personality that makes you want to get to know them better. I stumbled across Steve’s blog because of a post he submitted for the Weekly Photo Challenge, but I really liked his humour and the illustrations on his ‘Hi’ page and this made me want to look around his blog – and what I found keeps me coming back.

So give your blog design some of your valuable time and you’ll find that you enjoy creating posts more because your canvas boosts your enthusiasm for it.

I hope this helps. Yours sincerely,

      might war

  2. Dear Steve,

I really like what you’ve done here. It’s a great introduction to your site’s content and there are a number of areas you mentioned that I’ve highlighted to check out.

Congratulations on getting a Custom Domain. It’s exciting isn’t it? Like a stated commitment to keep blogging. Keep up the good work.

Wising you a wonder-filled 2014 and the very best of yourself in your endeavours for the coming year.
