Forget The iPod, I’ve Got A godPod…

What’s on your godPod…

I have always been a very firm believer that music can help lift any mood. Hence the reason I have playlists for everything.

This belief was reassured to me this very morning. Travelling to work by train is never the most joyous experience and after sitting staring at miserable faces for 10 minutes I disembarked the train and this song came on my iPod that very instant.

I literally then bounced all the way to work.

‘Cause I Gotta Have Faith, Paloma Faith…

Here is my Top 10 most played songs from the last 7 days…

23rd March 2014

23rd March 2014

Number One this week was “Only Love Can Hurt Like This” by Paloma Faith. This isn’t the first song from her new album but it’s one that when I first heard I had to play it again and again. It’s a nice big ballad and really shows off how powerful her voice is. I’ve not quite managed to listen to all the other tracks on her album yet…here’s a really fantastic live version of it…

I’ve listened to “Let Me In” a lot more because it’s an amazing track but so far I have been unsuccessful on hearing any of other stuff from the guys but I definitely will.

Repeating Motion” is just too cool and very easy to listen to.

It’s good to see a bit of good old-fashioned Britpop in here too by way of “Four Walls” by Cast.

Now for this time last year, here is my Top 10 most played songs from the week ending March 24th 2013…

March 24th 2013

Number One this week last year was “Something” by Andrius Pojavis. It’s a Eurovision Song Contest entry from last year and was one of my favourites but sadly it didn’t do very well – possibly his crazy eyebrows put a lot of people off. To see how obsessed I am with Eurovision take a look at these posts.

Friday Night At The Drive In Bingo” is a really fun song and I want to know where this “drive in bingo” is as it sounds like a fab place to go on a Friday night.

I used to love the Scottish band Astrid but sadly they split up before they really got going. I still like them a lot but we’ll never know how famous they might have been. “Alas” is quite a reflecting song and you need to be in the correct mood to be able to appreciate it. I struggled to find any full versions of it to stream online but it’s well worth buying!

Oh When The St Vincent Songs Go Marching In…

Here is my Top 10 most played songs from the last 7 days…

16th March 2014

16th March 2014

Number One this week was “Cruel” by St Vincent. I know this isn’t on the latest album but I just can’t stop playing this song right now. It’s got such a catchy vibe to it and as soon as hear the first few seconds I need to listen to the entire song again.

Work It Out has a nice chilled out lullaby vibe to it and is a perfect song for listening to on a Sunday morning.

I knew as soon as I heard Let Me In that the band HATS were from Scotland. It’s not often that accents come across when singing but I love it when they do and if you like songs with big strings then you will love this. I’m looking forward to finding out more about HATS.

Paloma Faith released her new album, A Perfect Contradiction, this week and Can’t Rely on You is the lead track from it. I really like it, it’s very in your face and telling it like it is. The thing about Paloma is when you hear her speak she is as quiet as a mouse and you would never believe she could belt out a tune like this.

Now for this time last year, here is my Top 10 most played songs from the week ending March 17th 2013…

17th March 2013

17th March 2013

Number One this week last year was “Womaniser” by Lily Allen. This was obviously the week Dermot O’Leary’s Saturday Sessions was released as all the songs in this week are from that album. It’s quite a recent idea to get people in a radio studio and ask them to sing other people’s songs. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t but I think Lily Allen’s cover of this Britney Spears song is brilliant.

I’ve always tried to like Bat For Lashes but it’s a very haunting style of music and I remember one night I put one of the albums on my iPod and listened to it while I tried to fall asleep. I then experienced the worst episode of night terrors evert so I have kept away from other albums by her since then – no offence Bat!

There’s a few other good covers on this album and it is well worth a listen. Conveniently, I also done a post this week about cover songs called They Call Me Mister Cover Lover…

Stop Being Cruel To James Blunt – He’s Not Really A C***

Here is my Top 10 most played songs from the last 7 days…

9th March 2014

9th March 2014

Number One this week was “Bones” by James Blunt. My “artist of the month” is James Blunt so it’s no surprise that he features quite prominently this week and Bones is an amazing track…

I love, love, love St Vincent just now as is evident from previous posts. My favourite track just now is Cruel from one of the earlier albums. Also, check out the new album St Vincent which has Birth In Reverse on it.

A quite cheery song that helps to welcome in the spring, in my opinion, is Falling In Love Again.

Cillie Barnes has a very distinctive voice and it’s really easy to listen to so I will be looking out for more songs by her.

March 10th 2013

March 10th 2013

Number One this week last year was “Closer” by Tegan And Sara so I had obviously not got fed up of listening to their new album yet. I must also still have been in a very pop frame of mind as all the songs are again very “poppy”.  One of my favourite ever female singers is Natalie Imbruglia and “Fun” is a nice little semi-ballad…

A nice comeback from Justin Timberlake with the track Mirrors.

The ultimate cool pop star from the future – will.i.am teams up with the crazy Britney Spears for Scream & Shout which was an excellent partnership.

I’m Steve And I Am An iTunes-a-holic…Part Two

The title of this post says it all – I am addicted to iTunes.

I am not ashamed of it and I will happily talk for hours about the hours that I spend on iTunes – either listening to my library, organizing it or just looking at how pretty it is.

If The Drama Llama Had An iPod These Songs Would Be On It…

Here is my Top 10 most played songs from the last 7 days…

2nd March 2014...

2nd March 2014

Number One this week was “Seasons (Waiting For You)” by Future Islands. I really like this song, his voice has a very unique quality. I don’t think the new album is released yet so I listened to some older stuff and I like very much. Also, if you like cowboys then you will love the video too.

There’s quite a few good, new songs in this week’s list. The track by Stoney is so chilled out it makes me just want to sit out in the sun underneath a tree and watch the world go by. I’ve not managed to find any more of his stuff yet but I will track it down. I love the story in the video too.

Take Me To The Church is a very dramatic song with powerful vocals and another strong story in the video.

I’ve heard of Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. before but this song has a cool 80’s feel and makes me smile.

Overall – a very dramatic week for my music.

3rd March 2013

Number One this week last year was “Dear Darlin” by Olly Murs. He is a cheeky chappy and his songs are very catchy – you just can’t not like him.

This was also the time that two of my favourite singers collaborated – Pink and Nate Ruess. Both have amazing voices and the song choice was excellent – a brilliant partnership.

Another great collaboration was Beneath Your Beautiful and it appears that this time last year was certainly more “poppy” with Ellie Goulding, Swedish House Mafia and Bruno Mars

Let Me See You Shake A Tailfeather…

Here is my Top 10 most played songs from the last 7 days…

23rd February 2014

23rd February 2014

Number One this week was “Feathertips” by Waterstrider. This is quite a cool song with quite a catchy hook. They are a new band to me that BIRP! has introduced me and I don’t know much about them so I will have to wait and listen to more of their stuff before I decide how much I like them.

James Blunt always seems to get a hard time but I really like his voice and his music. Bonfire Heart is one of his best songs in a long time.

I’m not quite sure which member of Boyzone is singing on this cover version of Everything I Own but it’s nice to hear another voice besides Ronan’s now that Stephen is sadly no longer with us…

I went through an eighties revival during the week for this post – The 1980s Called…They Want Their Mix-Tapes Back… hence the appearance of Belinda Carlisle in this week’s chart.

Now for this time last year, here is my Top 10 most played songs from the week ending February 24th 2013…

February 24th 2013

24th February 2013

Number One this week last year was “Closer” by Tegan And Sara. I think it’s obvious by now how much I like them so I won’t spend more time on that right now.

One of my favourite bands of all time released the album “Hipsters” last year – Deacon Blue. I simply love them! The fact that they are Scottish is an added bonus. This track, “Here I Am In London Town” is a beautiful ballad and really shows that Ricky’s gravel voice can also be really soothing. It’s just a pity he is singing about a place in England…

Olly Murs has a few entries this week and he is the ultimate proof that X Factor losers are the ultimate winners in the end.

16th February 2014

Number One this week was “Riptide” by Vance Joy. I can’t get enough of this song right now and can’t wait to hear more from him this year.

Aside from the usual Tom Odell and Tegan And Sara, I’m listening a lot to St Vincent right now – her stuff is pretty cool, with a new album imminent.

Number One this week last year was “Shampain” by Marina & The Diamonds. I guess I never listened to a lot of music that week as there are only 7 entries. However, it’s still a great list – Marina is fab!

If you have ever listened to Primadonna – then you really must check out this acoustic version.

Good to see Ocean Colour Scene make an appearance – they are one of my all time favourite bands. I’m a Britpop kid!

Here is my Top 10 most played songs from the last 7 days…

February 10th 2014

February 10th 2014

Number One this week was “Wrecking Ball” by Casa Murilo. This obviously came from me re-discovering this song when I was doing my charts last week. I really love it but unfortunately can’t find an album from him.

I played Birth In Reverse a lot last week and went on to download more songs from St Vincent. There is a new album coming soon so I am looking forward to that.

There seems to always be a Tom Odell track in my charts these days and he’s just been nominated for Best Breakthrough at the Brit Awards. Good luck Tom!

Number One this week last year was “I Couldn’t Be Your Friend” by Tegan And Sara. Needless to say that this was they week they released their album, Heartthrob. It dominates the top ten of that week and if you’ve never listened to them then I strongly advise that you do.
